You just left the salon with a gorgeous new manicure — now how do you keep it looking fresh for as long as possible? Whether you have gel, acrylic, or regular polish, these expert tips from our nail technicians at Al Safy Oasis will help you get the most out of your manicure.
Before Your Appointment
Believe it or not, manicure longevity starts before you even sit down in the salon chair:
- Avoid Lotions & Oils: Don't apply hand cream or cuticle oil on the day of your appointment. Oily nails prevent polish and gel from adhering properly.
- Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment. Healthy, hydrated nails hold products better.
- Don't Cut Cuticles at Home: Leave cuticle work to your technician. Improper cutting can cause damage and lifting.
The First 24 Hours
The first day after your manicure is crucial for longevity:
- Avoid hot water and steam — take lukewarm showers and keep hands out of dishwater
- Don't use your nails as tools (opening cans, peeling stickers, etc.)
- Be gentle with your hands — the adhesive and product need time to fully cure and bond
Daily Care Tips
The Russian Manicure Advantage
One reason our clients love the Russian manicure technique is that it naturally extends the life of any manicure. By meticulously cleaning the cuticle area with an e-file, the gel or polish is applied right up to the cuticle line (and even slightly underneath). This means no visible growth gap for 3–4 weeks, compared to 1–2 weeks with a standard manicure.
At Al Safy Oasis, every manicure includes this precision technique, which is why our clients consistently tell us their nails last longer than anywhere else.
When to Book Your Next Appointment
- Gel Manicure: Every 2–3 weeks
- Acrylic Infills: Every 2–3 weeks
- Russian Manicure: Every 3–4 weeks
- Regular Polish: Touch up as needed, typically weekly
